Construction Foreman

About the Job

The Construction Foreman will safely and effectively lead and maintain operation of their assigned crew. They will ensure all operations comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and follow and adhere to all safety protocols. Extensive travel out of the Brainerd Lakes Area in addition to overnight travel will be expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide communication and direction to crew members.

  • Implement and perform steps to complete jobs in a timely manner.

  • Performing duties of operator and/or laborer.

  • Ability to operate all construction equipment.

  • Setting daily production goals.

  • Conducting daily walk-throughs and monitoring and adhering to safety processes and procedures.

  • Ensuring accurate and up to date DOT documentation.

  • Conducting weekly toolbox talks.

  • Load, unload, tie-down & secure tools, materials and equipment.

  • Maintaining and submitting required reporting.

  • Setting up safety perimeters using signage, cones and safety barriers and at times flagging traffic.

  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by management.*


*These tasks do not meet the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 definition of essential job functions and are usually less than 5% of time spent.  However, these tasks still constitute important performance aspects of the job.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be experienced with all types of equipment and understand their capabilities and limitations.

  • Ability to follow instructions.

  • Basic ability to use small tools/hand tools.

  • Ability to read and understand work orders, safety rules and operating instructions.

  • Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to give descriptive and respectful direction.

  • Must be able to proficiently use locators to safely identify utilities.

  • Must have good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record - Unrestricted Class A CDL.

  • Must have good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be very safety conscientious.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with crew, customers and vendors.

  • May be required to work overtime: after regular business hours, weekends, or be on emergency on-call as needed.

  • Travel will be required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 

  • Previous construction or utility construction experience, preferred experience in Telecommunications but not required.

  • Previous experience in a similar position with a focus on crew leadership is required.
